Pooh was one of my favourite characters when I was a child and still is. He is very popular in Poland and one Warsaw street is named after him, "Ulica Kubusia Puchatka."
Not long after the WW II, in 1949 - 1956, when Warsaw was still under the reconstruction process from the war damage, a new residential area was constructed in the very center. One little, cozy street, parallel to Nowy Swiat street, had no name.
The authorities through the newspaper asked children to choose the patron and they decided it will be Winnie-the-Pooh.
