Warsaw, Poland

"I cannot remain silent and I cannot live while the remnants of Polish Jewry, whose representative I am, are being murdered"

The monument to Szmul Zygielbojm, leader of the Bund and a member of the National Council of the Polish government in exile.
Three weeks after the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto broke out, he committed suicide in his London flat in protest at the passivity with which the world was permitting the Nazis to destroy the Jews of Europe.
