The Icon

Chotyniec, Poland view map

Over the icon there is a traditional Ukrainian "Rushnyk" (towel) - a ritual cloth made of linen or cotton, with woven or embroidered designs, done by hand.
They are usually draped over religious picture frames or crosses, at homes and churches. In Ukrainian tradition, rushnik was regarded as a protection against evil.
