8/16/08 - Seeing

When going to Lake Kegonsa State Park, I generally have in mind to shoot wildflowers, deer, water fowl, macros, etc. Landscapes are possible but conditions must be right to get a decent picture.

This morning, I was hoping for heavy dew but as luck would have it, only a light dew coated surfaces. Yet I enjoyed the walk and found why I like taking pictures, (but not really too willing to share them). I find that through the view finder, I am able to find and see things that I sometimes miss with just looking around. I am able to ‘see’ the wonders of nature. And to me, my photos are personal and have meaning other than just a catalogue of where I had been or what I had seen.

This ‘bug’ was a case in point. I saw him fly and land on this plant near the path. And while I had decided to pack it in, I still had the, (cheap), 60-300 mm macro lens with a 27.5 mm extension tube on my camera and a few shots left. I got several shots up to just an inch or two away from it. And to me, whenever I look at this photo, I’ll remember the cool of the morning, the wet pant legs, the clear skies, and most of all the ‘thrill’ of creeping up on this bug and really ‘seeing’ it for the first time.

This is cropped but other than resizing and sharpening, straight from the camera.
