Raffles Hotel

Named after the founder of modern Singapore and opened in 1887, its guests have included Rudyard
Kipling, Somerset Maugham, Herman Hesse, Noel Coward, and Charlie Chaplin. It was the first building
in Singapore with electric lights and fans, and it was here in 1915 that the "Singapore Sling" was invented.
