On the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand, Hua Hin has been a favorite Thai resort for over 80 years. The resort was established in the early 1920s by King Rama 6 and King Rama 7 as a convenient getaway from Bangkok. The quiet fishing village was turned into a royal resort and consequently became popular among Siam's nobility and upperclass. The construction of a railway line from Bangkok ensured its accessibility and popularity with a wider Thai public, but it is the resort's continuing royal patronage which gives Hua Hin its unique character.
