Welcome to this photo gallery of an amzing trip to Iceland in August 2003. We picked up our hire car at Keflavik at 11.00 pm before driving on to Reykjavik for our first night in Iceland. The next day we headed off to Thingvallavatn (the openair site of the historic Icelandic Parliament, then to the Geysir volcanic area and the Gulfoss waterfall, then past Hekla to our second night at Vik (with its famous black sand beach).
The next day we headed along the south coast past Vatnajokull to stay at Hofn, sayling on the nearby Iceberg filled lake. On Day 3 we drove via the East Coast Fjords to Neskaupstadur. Day 4 took us across the dry NE “desert” via lake Myvatn (famous for its midges)to Husavik on the north coast - our base for the next four nights.
There we went whale watching - but missed them (apparently quite a rare event) but saw dolphins instead. We visited the Jokulsarglifur National Park and the Dettifos watrefalls, as well as Godafoss.
On Day 9 we visited Akueiri (dropping my daughter Lindsay at the airport) and in the afternoon followed the ring road to Langerbaki. Day 10 saw us heading along the amazing Snaefells peninsula past Snafellsjokul (famous as the location of Jules Verne's 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'). After an overnight at Hellisandir, we headed back along the east coast to Reykjavik. Oo our last day before flying back we visited the Blue Lagoon and more active volcanic features. The roads (often unpaved) were an amazing experience - and the Island a paradise for photographing dramatic and unforgettable scenry. Go if you can!
I'm very interested in youre pictrures from Iceland in august, I'm planning to go there in august or september, maybe next year. Sadly many of the pictures aren't visible. could you fix them? or can I find them somewhere else?
