Can you guess what this is? Paul (aw shucks) and Donny know that this is the heart of a combine. This is a sieve that vibrates and lets the grain fall through and the chaff and straw stay on top to be ejected out the back. This particular sieve design is new to this farm and the boys are anxious to try it out next week. For those of you that are really curious, the sieve is a bunch of hexagons which are about 83% open and are about .285 inches across the flats. Donny thinks they are perfect for grass seed, which is what Paul is growing. That is just a bit of trivia for the curious out there.
Might wrong thinking, but not counting all the machanical improvements over the years, they seem to stay with the same basic plan of operation..... based on my outside view now and then.
I figured that was the case. This was the first time I ever got a chance to see how a combine works. What an infernal device. It is almost as if Rube Goldberg were an inventor.
Just kidding of course John.. I have interest in ALL types of things like this..
Ask anyone around me.. full of facts and figures they have no use for at all 8-)
