Day Twenty Six
So today we started into Shenandoah National Park. This is the 42nd National Park we have visited. If you are unfamiliar with the park, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the centerpiece. It is a good road through forests that is scenic. There are 105 miles of road in the park and an additional 400 or so south of the park. We are going to do the whole thing. It is slow going because the speed limit is 35 mph. That really isn't a problem because the woods and overlooks are quite grand. We spent the day dawdling and stopping at places. The Dickey Ridge Visitor Center was the first stop. We got a lot of information from the rangers. We proceeded on. When we got to Marshall Mountain trail head, there was a ranger just about to start a hike, so we joined that and found it very interesting. We got off the parkway at mile 35 or thereabouts and headed to Luray to spend the night.
