We had a whole day at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. We had tours of Hangar 2 (Viet Nam and Korea) and Hangar 1 (WW I and WW II). Again, excellent tours. We ended the day with two 3D movies: Fighter Pilot and Aircraft Carriers. Great films with very cool photography. We ended up with about an hour before closing so it was off to look at stuff we missed and fill in the blanks on stuff we saw. By the end of the day we were plum tuckered out. Lots of walking and standing.
Today's photo is of the B-24 Strawberry Bitch. What caught my eye was the squadron insignia which is the 512th Bomb Squadron. That was the unit my dad served with. This particular airplane served while the squadron was still based in North Africa. My dad joined the squadron (which was part of the 376th Bomb Group) when it was in Italy in the second half of 1944. Here is a photo of my dad's crew in July of 1944.
