How do you celebrate Labor Day? As with other American holidays, you put on a feast and drink beer. It seemed that grilling was going to be dicey because of the weather so it was decided that a pot roast might fill the bill. Of course mashed potatoes and gravy. I like to make pan sauces or gravies for several reasons. First, they are very tasty and you can customize ingredients to fit your pleasure. Second, they are simple to make especially when you have yummy drippings from a roast. Most importantly, you can deglaze the pan with bourbon and light it on fire. Ginny got this shot after most of the alcohol had been consumed. The initial inferno was quite impressive, reaching up to the fume hood above the stove.
