July 17&18, 2017

The last two days were spent on the road. Normally we don't have two long days in a row, but Ginny wanted to make sure we were back in time to play trivia with our friends tomorrow night. So the first day we went from Kingsport, Tennessee to Meridian, Mississippi. It was about 500 miles. We made one stop in Chattanooga to pick up some National Park Service Senior passes before they go up to $80 next month. We already had them, but decided for $10 it was worth getting a spare. In the future, replacements will be $80 as well.

Our stay in Meridian was uneventful, which is good. The usual stop at Walmart to get some nice salads then back to the room for some beer and wine to go with them. That is our usual drill on the road.

Our trip from Meridian to home was pretty much uneventful. We had great traffic all the way. On the way over the Atchafalaya bridge (18 miles long) east of Lafayette we saw an 8 mile traffic jam with everybody at a dead stop. Fortunately, it was in the other direction. The trip was 515 miles and we did it in exactly 8 hours for an all in average of a little over 64 miles per hour. That included pit stops. All along the way we were able to travel about 75 miles per hour which helps the average. I hasten to add that we were still getting passed by other cars on a regular basis.

Today's photo is of the trip odometer, 6043.3 miles in a day under six weeks. That is an average of 147 miles per day. If you do the math, we used about 259 gallons of gas. We added six new state capitols to our total. That leaves only two more, Minnesota and Hawaii. We saw lots of friends. We saw a lot of cool stuff. I can't wait to head out again.
