We headed out from Tim and Margie's house after a nice leisurely breakfast. Ginny got a call from the New Hampshire State House that there would be a guide available this morning for a tour. The drive to Concord was nice. We chose a back road for part of it and enjoyed the scenery. The New Hampshire state house is not real big. It had just undergone a refurbishment project and the dome was freshly covered with gold leaf. It was very shiny. We could see it from a long way off. The tour was well done. We didn't realize that Daniel Webster was born in New Hampshire. He has his statue here as well at the state house in Boston. This is also the birthplace of Franklin Pierce, the 14th president. He is largely forgotten. He was a one term president (1853-1857). He managed to exacerbate the north-south problems in the United States. This was a time when all politicians were losing sight of the concept of a unified republic, regardless of what they were saying. When he left office, the Civil War was only four years in the future.

The weather was very nice. We got some nice photos outside. The shiny dome was a little bit of a problem, but you could find spots where the shiny part was minimized. Today's photo is of the Capitol and the replica Liberty Bell which was given to all the states in 1950 as a promotion to sell savings bonds.
