It was a productive day. I went out to the airport today and finished off the annual inspection on the Cherokee with Bloke. He also gave me a bottle of Johnnie Walker Double Black blended Scotch whisky. I sampled it when I got back home. It is very reminiscent of the Islay brands. A fair amount of peat and smoke. I am reasonably certain that I am going to enjoy it.

As I mentioned a couple days ago, the GPS data going to my navigation programs was very flaky. I sent inquiries to the software people and the GPS receiver people. The software guys were not much help. The pointed me to directions to reboot the iPad. It was stuff I had already tried. The receiver folks were a different story. They wanted to know the firmware version. A few minutes after I provided that they sent instructions for updating the firmware. I was a little reluctant to give it a try because knowing my luck (and occasional ineptitude) there was a good chance I would bugger it up. Courage prevailed, instructions were followed, a reward of a fully functional GPS receiver was achieved. Now I will have to wait until tomorrow to really give it a try. We are heading out on a 6 week road trip. That will be the real test of the upgraded system.

Today's photo is of the iPad with the navigation software for tomorrow's leg of the trip. We are heading to Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Roll Tide) for the night before heading on into Atlanta for the weekend. The gadget on the left is the Dual XGPS-150 receiver. It is WAS enabled and is supposed to have an accuracy of +/- 2.5 meters. That is definitely close enough for government work.
