Our house is undergoing major surgery this week. We have galvanized water piping, and there have been three leaks over this year. I always get puckered about leaks when we go on our extended road trips. There is a way to fix this problem. You simply repipe the house with a plastic tubing that won't leak. Easier said than done. It is an intrusive process because you have to route the new pipe all over the house. Ours is a two story house. They leave the old pipe in place for the most part. They have been at it for a couple days and I am impressed how good these guys are. They are minimizing the amount of wall and ceiling cutting that takes place. They are installing new shut off valves under all the sinks. The new ones are ball valves. The old ones were the twist type which get frozen after a while. We have a couple more days of this to go. There will be a lot of sheet rock repair to be done afterwards.
