I know it is Mother's Day. We had a nice day with Ginny and Laura. Took it easy and opened some presents.
It was also the transit of Mercury across the sun. I am no astrophotographer, but I decided to give it a try. I have a variable ND filter which will give me 8 stops. I set up the tripod and started blasting away. Here is the only one I got where you could actually see Mercury. The spot on the top is a sunspot. Mercury is the faint spot at the 4 o'clock position. I also set up some binoculars and was able to get an image on a sheet of paper. Both ways worked, so I can say that there was a modest amount of satisfaction on my part. Being easily amused helps as well.
