This is my son Richard and his wife Christiane at the baby shower held about a month ago. Christiane is expecting twins. They were supposed to be due in November. Well, yesterday, the little ones decided that it was time to enter the world even through it was 9 weeks early. Andrew and Austin were born two minutes apart Sunday evening. Good news all around. The boys and their mom are doing fine.
We told Rich and Christiane to just tell us if there is anything we can do. We have all the time in the world. Sure enough, this evening Richard called and asked if they could take us up on our offer. That's all Ginny needed to get really excited. Grandmother to the rescue. So we are heading out to Kennett Square Friday with a two day stop in Atlanta to visit Rob, Laura and grandson Peyton.
Our main duty is going to be helping Christiane. She won't be able to drive for six weeks. She is planning to come home from the hospital Friday, but Andrew and Austin are going to be residing in the NICU for another four weeks or so. The hospital is 45 minutes away from the house, so we are going to provide the taxi service while Richard is at work. He gets a four week paternity leave when he chooses, but he wants to start that when the boys actually come home.
And so the adventure begins for Richard and Christiane. Lucky people. Life is good.
