The weather has been crappy ever since I got my new camera. Today I couldn't stand it any longer and decided to go out to Bay Area Park to try the 5D Mk3 with my 100-400 lens. From what I have read, the Mk3 has the best autofocus system out there. I took some photos of bicycle riders coming head on and tries the AI Servo function. Things seemed to be working quite well. With my Mk2, the autofocus with the same lens seemed a little hit or miss so I was anxious to see what I could do. Judging from what I could see on the camera screen, things looked pretty good. Once home I could see that things were quite good, although it was evident that I need a lot more practice. So here is a shot of a Great Blue Heron at about 50 yards using 400mm. It is a 1 to 1 crop. If you click "original" you will see it 1 to 1. the photo is 762X1142 pixels, which calculates out to 3.9% of the full frame. I was impressed. But, as I have told you numerous times, I am easily amused.
