Most of today was spent in travel. We flew from Ketchikan (via Wrangell, Petersburg and Juneau) to Anchorage. It was a new flying experience because the equipment was a 737 Combi. It was half containerized freight and half passengers (about 72). It was interesting to look out the window because the trip from Wrangel to Petersburd was below the clouds and below the mountains. Fortunately, visibility was good, but it was pretty cool flying through the various water passages in a 737.
Once settled in Anchorage we set out to pick up a walking tour from the Alaska Public Lands Information Center. We then went back for a film about the Good Friday earthquake in 1964. Although I remember the event, I didn't remember the degree of devastation caused by the quake and the ensuing tsunami. A very interesting film which featured many first hand accounts captured not long after the event.
We finished our day by getting some reindeer sausage sandwiches which we took back to the room and enjoyed with some wine. |
