One of my objectives for the next week is to finish an annual on my Cessna 170. I have to admit to be dawdling. One of the things I have to do is replace the crankshaft oil seal. It is something that you sometimes do when the opportunity presents itself, like taking the prop off. I had in the back of my mind that this would be a two hour job. Boy was I wrong. The old seal became stuck to the case and I have been having a hell of a time getting all the pieces out of there. What I have resorted to is stuffing paper towels in the seat and dousing them with solvent. This seems to soften things up and makes the sealant a little more pliable. I have to be careful because I don't want to scratch the seat which is aluminum.

Does the adage "good things take time" help?

I understand that very well John.
I always allow 5 hours for a 5 minute job.
Sometimes it takes 1 hour and I feel really good.
