Occasionally in my scanning project I come across things that aren't in the right place time wise or perhaps Ginny's notes on the folders are a bit off. In this photo you can see how I am cataloging and indexing the photos. I use a file name root that is of the form YYMMDD(X). Year Month Day and a seventh letter in case there are multiple packages for a given day. Then I sequence the individual photos from that package, for example 951231_0004.tif. In this manner I get unique, useful file and folder names for everything. In the present case, I was assigning keywords when the keyword "Yellowstone 1996" popped up. Well, we didn't go to Yellowstone in 1996, so I investigated and found that folder 960831A, which I had scanned four years ago had a bogus date on it. Now, luckily, I was working through our photos from our actual trip to Yellowstone in 1995 and recognized the subject matter in the photos. This was a mixed content folder and obviously one of the boy's cameras at work because the last photos were of an event that took place at the end of 1995. In this case, I don't have to rescan everything, I just have to work very carefully with Lightroom and Bridge to rename the file to the proper root and rename the scans in the same manner. So everything worked out and a correct name and number was assigned. The peasants rejoiced and there was peace in the realm.
