Southwestern South Dakota has a lot of natural wonders to see. I was surprised. We spent the day on some really twisty roads going through Custer State Park and the surroundings. We saw all kinds of critters. There were also many great rock formations. None of them red, Dave, sorry. Driving out the Northwest corner of Custer State Park you go through the Needles. Very pretty rock formations. The one in the picture is typical of what is there. The going was slow for the most part. We averaged 23 miles per hour. Spent 5 hours driving. We did also get to tour in Wind Cave which was interesting. It is a huge cave system in which 140 miles of caves have been explored. They estimate, based on air flow, that the explored part may only be 5-10 percent of what is there. All in all a fun day, but aren't they all fun? |
