I decided to come into the 21st century and invested in an iPad, a bluetooth GPS (Dual XGPS-150) and subscribed to ForeFlight, software that downloads charts and plates and stuff. This particular combinatioin is legal for use in airborne navigation. The set up I bought has a $75/year subscription. That is far cheaper than buying the hard copies. Well, I had to try it out and Bloke and I went flying to see how it works. It is pretty good. It is going to take some time to become familiar with the software. You don't want to be heads down in the cockpit. We flew over to Chambers County and back. It all worked as advertised. Here is a shot of Bloke on short final back into LaPorte after a nice flight.

Good question. Actually, it is the Dual XGPS-150. It comes with a soft rubber doohickey (technical term) that you put it in to keep it in place.
