We had a nice visit to Valley Forge today. I found it very interesting because I more carefully read the timeline of the American revolution and was able to put some of the events into better perspective. The winter at Valley Forge was the third of seven winter encampments that the Continental Army underwent. It was cold and miserable. Thousands of soldiers died of disease. They built about two thousand huts in the space of about a month. It was here that Baron von Steuben joined the cause and started his transformation of the US Army into a disciplined fighting force. Here Ginny is holding out the flag of General Washington in front of his quarters. After this we headed over to KOP (King of Prussia) for a nice seafood lunch and then took David to the airport for his return to Houston. Ginny and I are going to stay with Richard and Christiane for one more day then head out early Monday morning for the trip back home with stops along the way. First stop - Gettysburg.

I have seen the phrase Valley Forge many times in books and films, most times it has not been used in relation to the actual place.
A very emotive name.
