August 1, 2011

I haven't posted anything for about a week. Although I haven't been too busy to take pictures, I just didn't get around to it. Anyway, today I was assigned to lead a hike at Fort Clatsop. It was a short one. It was a beautiful day to be outside. I did a lot of preparation work when I wasn't hiking. I also had to do a traffic survey for a while. This is simply counting cars and people in the cars to see how our car counter and admissions yield are going. Can you believe it, some people sneak in and don't pay the three bucks for admission! So here I am sitting at the entrance ready to leap into action with cllipboard at the ready to take the data. Actually it is boring as hell. I was so desperate for something to read that I picked up an old copy of "New Yorker" magazine. After a few minutes of going through that magazine, I was certain that I would never pick up another one. Of course the pickings are slim in the lunchroom. Another choice could have been Oprah's magazine, YUK! They never have "Guns and Ammo" or "Flying" or "Soldier of Fortune".

Photographer's note: I tend to start blazing away at the shutter before checking my camera settings. I need to stop doing that. When I downloaded my photos from today, I noticed they were at ISO 1600, not a good choice for the G11 and certainly not needed for these pictures. Note to self: Stop Doing That!

Leaving the ISO set from the previous night is standard practice around here in the old photogs community. New Yorker is airplane reading material so you can sleep!

Who needs "Soldier of Fortune" magazine when one lives the life depicted therein on a daily basis? For instance, this photo could illustrate the challenging task at hand involving ergonomic sitting devices made of METAL! No doubt the black sack conceals a full-automatic weapon for dealing with those who would sneak in without paying (but site clean-up must be tedious). Using ISO 1600 adds to the "gee whiz" factor. I'll bet that your footwear is approved for use by Army Rangers. Your expression reeks of purposefulness. Carry on!
