Yeah, it's me doing flint and steel fire starting demonstrations again. But, there is a lesson to be learned here. Yesterday's photo wasn't too good because of color and shading problems. Ginny was shooting available light in a tough situation. It was under a canvas roof which threw the color WAY WAY off and there were a lot of shadowy areas. Additionally, she had to push the ISO up which is a bad thing on the Rebel XT. We talked about it after we looked at the photos and decided to give a flash a try. Any photographer worth his salt prefers to shoot available light, but there are some situations where it just isn't satisfactory. This was one of them. So, Ginny shot a whole series with the flash and things got a LOT better. With the flash, we had control of the white balance and got away from the deleterious effects the canvas roof. She did a great job. She just put the camera in "stupid" mode (a.k.a. the green rectangle) which worked pretty well. I think if we do this again I would do a little more experimentation and set the iso and use shutter priority or even manual mode to lock in the exposure of the stuff outside the covered area. Anyway, we both learned a great deal from this experiment.
