I have been involved with aviation for quite a long time. Things have changed over the years. One of the things that has changed for the better is access to documentation. As any Airframe and Powerplant mechanic can tell you, you have to do your AD (airworthiness directive) research very dilligently. In the good old days, this was a pain in the ass. ADs are issued from time to time to correct problems that come up with airplanes and all the certified stuff that goes into them. You used to sit for hours going through indices and text on microfiche. You had to have a complete set of microfiche in order to do your job. You also had to keep a lot of other regulatory stuff in paper form and check for updates. Now days things are different. I subscribe to a service that sends out a CD with all that stuff in one place. It is all sorted by airframe, engine, propeller and appliance. Now it is a simple matter to come up with an AD list for a given aircraft. I like that part of it. What I hate is sitting on my butt doing paperwork. I would rather be flying or fixing. I am glad I only have two airplanes to maintain.
