I spent the whole morning removing the left landing gear of the swift so I could have a look at something. That something was the bolt holes in the landing gear box. They were, as suspected, elongated. That is something I have to fix. I put the thing back together so we could move it to let the other airplanes out. This was a job! The space is so restricted that it is very difficult to get a wrench or a ratchet on the nuts. There were nutplates there originally, but they have failed over the years and been replaced with nuts. My intention is to install nutplates to make maintenance much easier. I have always been told that a good mechanic (or fitter, if you are British) has eyes on the ends of his fingers.
