One of the things we get to deal with in the South is fire ants. They are pretty miserable buggers. In the 30 years we have lived here, we have done battle with these guys continuously. For the most part, I have kept them in check. I have also learned what treatment methods are the best. When I was younger, I liked to use the white stuff because you could see the little devils squirm and die. Unfortunately, that treatment normally didn't get them all and they would spring up somewhere near by in a few days. My preferred method of attack is Amdro. You can see the little yellow Amdro pellets in this ant's eye view of an ant hill. The workers carry the pellets back to the nest and take them below. Apparently, they have quite a feast on them and in a couple days they are all gone. New hills don't spring up nearby. This stuff works. So what I did today is treat a new ant hill that cropped up in the front yard. I will keep an eye on it. I am sure they will not be around for long.
