We visited the North Dakota state capitol in Bismarck on June 2, 2016. This was capitol number 35 in our quest to see them all. It was a beautiful day and we had lots of time to walk around inside and outside as well as visit the North Dakota Heritage Center. This is one of only four capitols that are high rise buildings. The others are Baton Rouge, Lincoln and Tallahassee. The building was completed in 1935 in an art deco style. I would call it rather subdued. It is the tallest building in North Dakota. The legislature was not in session so it was a quiet day. We took a guided tour of the building. North Dakota is the 39th state. It was admitted to the Union on November 2, 1889. |
