Lake Corpus Christi State Park is a 356-acre park, located near Mathis, Texas. It is built on a 21,000-acre lake and offers a wide variety of water activities, as well as camping, hiking, and bird watching. Lake Corpus Christi is one of the largest artificial bodies of water in Texas.
The Park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1934 and 1935. The original buildings included a bathhouse, park residence and a refectory (pavilion), but only the pavilion remains. This Mediterranean-style building was built of cast blocks of local caliche. The blocks were cast in various sizes and laid in a random pattern which closely resembles cut limestone.
Also remaining is a large, impressive, rock structure known as the “Grand Staircase,” which originally lead down to the boat house and other facilities.

I hope you enjoy visit to Lake Corpus Christi State Park. And, if you visit the park, I also hope you’ll take a look at the Pavilian and Grand Staircase to see the high quality of craftsmanship and workmanship that went into these structures.
With best wishes,
