Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site

Only about 32 miles from El Paso, Hueco Tanks is one of the most important historical sites in the Southwest, with evidence of man’s presence dating back 8,000 years.

Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic site contains over 3,000 pictographs (Indian rock paintings); is widely regarded as one of the best areas in the world for bouldering (rock climbing); is full of various wildlife, including over 200 different species of birds; has a long cultural history dating from early, prehistoric man, to the last Apaches to inhabit the “tanks,” to once a stop of the Butterfield stage coach line, to a colorful ranching history.
