Great to see photos of the Academy at Davies Mews. Caroline Hayes was my first instructor/muse. Brilliant! Great times in 1972-74 on Madison & 68th. Magical times with Roger T., Maurice T., Howard F., Mark P, John A, Monique and an amazing artistic collective. Wow, the energy and level of work in that salon continues to be an unrivaled memory to this day.

its been great to see all these photos of people i worked with in 1973 i as 16, a mere junior working with the greats. im still hairdressing to this day, 54 now. I later worked for trevor sorbie. but so remember ulrich, henry, haich, and so many others those were the days, when i got the job i was made up. my first day at bond st what a rude awakening i got to know what hard work was, it nearly killed me. i never forget handing in my notice to philip rodgers 2 years later, but remained a hairdresser for life. love to all x sassooneys.

what happend to jeffery moss and max papiae the both workrd manchester in the 70s then they moved to usa ,i used to work in the manchester salon in the70s for 3 years ,it was the best workin years of my life and i miss all the staff who worked ther my name is carl, i live in asia now not a hairdresser but in house renovation nan invester,great if any 1 remembers me nigel sue cathy paul harris etc etc many others .

Did my apprenticeship and worked as astylist in Bond Street. Actually shampooed Beverly Adams hair when she came in for Vidal to cut the very first time. My Stylist name was Richard. wOrked with Sean, Larence Falk,Angelo, Jackie, Bernard and Mitchell field era.. Been living in Malibu, California since 1988. In film and publishing...Met Bernard Daly who is also out in Malibu now...Anyway would love to catch up with anyone who remembers me. -Paul Ruffman

Vincent Nardi I was 22 years old when I was working for Vidal Sassoon on Madison Ave & 68th street, New York City as a junior stylist when on a Wednesday night during training classes I had no model to perform the class, Then Mr. Sassoon approached me and said "where is your model? why aren't you cutting hair?" when i replied I finished late I do not have a model, he quickly said you have one now as he pointed to his own head of hair. And i was put to the test for the next hour, cutting his hair. you can only imagine the feeling of the moment. from then on the rest is history! Thank you again Mr. Sassoon. I had "The Firefly" in 1976 and a flash of pink crazy colour underneath all the way round my head. I kept going for many years. An amazing haircut nothing quite like a Vidal Sassoon cut. I will never forget those happy memories an amazing artist rest in peace Vidal x

It was a sad day for hairdressers and the hairdressing world wide, with the passing of Vidal, I, like thousands,modelled my career on VS, he was the only true legend and icon of hairdressing. He will never be replaced. RIP edward beale Australia

Great memories, I was a trainee at Davies Mews about '76 ( I failed my test! ended up as a psychologist but not before working for Glemby for a while)and I remember vividly the Sassoon team at the time, especially Flint and Shelley at the school . Whatever happened to Aitch and Christopher Robin?

This site brings back incredible memories for me. I was first introduced to the Sassoon salon in New Bond St in 1967. I had just graduated from college in NY and was travelling for 10 weeks throughout Europe for the first time. This website brings back that whole era--the 60's. I loved and miss it. It was also the time of Mary Quant, Carnaby Street, and The Beatles! Sargeant Pepper had just been released, and Procol Harem's "A Lighter Shade of Pale." The Sassoon Method changed my life forever. No teasing, no hairdryers. My hair just fell into place naturally. I have straight, thick hair and tried permanents in the 50s. I never accepted who I was. The Sassoon salon gave me a graduated bob that I took with me throughout Europe, hitchhiking, and staying at youth hostels. When I returned to the States, I was a changed woman. I headed straight to 67th and Madison, where I met Vincent Nardi, then a young junior trainee. I was his "model" when the trainees gave free haircuts (Wed nights?). Nardi rose through the ranks quickly. I followed him for a time to his NY salon. In the 70's, I made my way to Roger Thompson's salon on 155 E. 55th St, an apartment really. He was very unpretentious and incredibly perfectionistic. Vincent Nardi and Roger Thompson are (were) two of the greatest hair stylists. I was indeed very sad to hear of the passing of Roger Thompson. Today, I go to a Sassoon-trained hairstylist in Westchester County, NY. He was trained at the NY salon in the 1970s. As I read this website, I truly miss my youth. I miss walking out of the Madison Ave. salon feeling gorgeous, and people asking me: "Who cut your hair?" And hearing that old slogan: "If you don't look good, we don't look good."

I was adopted after her dead in October 1975 in broadway where she felt down of the 8th floor of her apartment. Dear Vidal,I think that some of the history is incorrect. The school was opened in 1967/8 by Robert Edele, jayson and Seymour Myers. Seymour only served a short time there as he left in 1968 to live in Manchester and get married. However, he and jayson were the first two people to open the school, with Jayson as Principal and Seymour as Head Teacher. My name is Joaquin Regalado I had the opportunity to work with the international artistic team of Vidal Sasson in Mexico city and Guadalajara Mexico on the earliest 90's My aunt Graciela Regalado was one of the first mexican students in the middle 70's in Vidal Sasson in London academy. She inspired my to became a hairstylist and when I was only 15 years old I hear stories about how amazing was Vidal Sasson team , I have so much respect from each one of you guys.

Ian Mistlin Just found this amazing site which has brought back fond memories of my time at Sassoon between 1970-1984, which including managing 44 Slaone Street. After that I went on to work as a hair and make up session stylist, write 2 books... How to win clients and interpret their needs and The Total Look. Hi John I have heard Henry Abels cut on this page refered to as the Fire Fly 2 by Chrisopher Brooker. It is a Stable standard of Sassoon cutting, and one of the loveliest pieces of work preformed. This is all pre photoshop, and digital repairs on photography. I just love it

My name is edward beale I'm from Australia, I first became aware of VS in the early 1960's along with my partner Bob Leopold in a salon in Melbourne, we were the first to emulate Sassoon in Australia. I would send all my clients travelling overseas to the Bond Street Salon,and Vidal would sent back complements via the returning clients.I first attended the VS School in 1973-4 and completed my first cutting course. Tom Yeardye the UK MD at the time arranged for me to meet Vidal in LA, in the Rodeo Drive salon I was so nervous, it was meeting God,he was so passionate and friendly,he also asked me to put his VS Salon haircare range together for release in Australia, which I did on my return to Melbourne. I also send dozens of staff to train in London and LA to train, we soon became known as the VS of Australia. In 1985 and 86 we bought a team of VS staff to Melbourne and replicated the Sassoon Academy Down-under the result was some 2000 Aussie hairdressers completing a Sassoon cutting course. It's very fun to see the beginning of a revolution. I worked in the Chicago salon for many years back in the mid 70's to the early 80's. It was the experience of a lifetime. Just wondering if there are any pictures of the salons in the U.S. A gallery of those would be wonderful.

MICHAEL LAOUTAS I'm very surprised to find myself in this homepage, bringing back lots of old memories. I startet in 1969 with John Santilli, Jason Peller and Aldo at the school. Worked also in Munich for 2 years, before opening "The English Haircutters" in Munich (1970-1980). Moved on to Innsbruck-Austria, I opened "House of Hair".
