In September 2006, I went on a study tour on "Free trade and regional economic integration" to Brussels as part of my work at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. Brussels is heavily characterised by the bombast of King Leopold II.'s monuments and the blandness of the many EU buildings (and those of other lobbying organisations in town). However, it does offer some very pretty spots that are best found by going for long walks through town.
