Portchester Castle

Originally built in the 3rd century. A Norman castle in the 12th century when the tower keep was built. Richard the 2nd used it as palace in 1396. Henry the 5th departed from here for the Agincourt campaign in 1415. Used as a prison in the Dutch and Napoleonic wars.

Did you get photos or details off ALL the tomb stones before they were removed.? My great great ? was governor of the prison about 1800. Namely Russell, and there were a number of family tombs there.
The name IRELAND entered my family supposedly after William Ireland who was there in prison. But why did the goveror name his son after him.? I know it happened but no one can tell me why. Can you ?
