It would not surprise me to learn that this supposedly helpful sign is a ruse of aliens who are using the lamp as a covert communications device. Picture, if you will, a drab office in a warehouse, staffed by aliens (in the form of humans, of course) who answer the phone and pretend to be sympathetic, but are really trying to determine how many humans recognize the problem with the lamp. They are not fools: awareness can lead to correction. The more who know of these tactics, the better our chances of surviving the invasion.
