Ian, It is very difficult to hold and fire, but when 3oz of lead shot comes out of the end, you will not believe the damage it does. This is not a long range weapon, 100 yards from the end of it you will be safe, 25 yards, forget this world, explore the next.

Dave, We practice a lot. No waiting time. Low tech is king. They have no defence against a large lead ball moving a lot slower than the speed of light.
The balls pass through a force field like it was not there.

Long lenses and long barrels are best supported by a tripod. However, creatures from another planet might not be polite enough to wait while you set up a "shot," especially if they are planning to zap you with a ray gun.
