I tapped on the side of the tree, and a Mallard popped up.

This duck is nesting in the tree.
This is the female. I will try to get back later and get a shot of the male arriving or leaving.

John, I have often seen Mallards nesting on the ground, in fields a long way from water.
This is the first one I have seen in a tree.
