Up a tree ?.
Richmond
Extremely rare to see a Mallard up in a tree.
It definitely does not nest up there.

John, is that normal.
I have seen many Mallard nests, always on the ground, always well away from water.

There's two nesting in a tree on the Shropshire Union Canal near to me in Cheshire John.
They're quackers.
