15th of March 2008 The most prestigious rowing race in the world. The longest processional rowing race in the world. To win at the Olympics you row 2,000 metres in a straight line in your own lane on calm water. To win the Head of the River you row 6,800 metres through rough tidal water, around sharp bends, threading your way through 420 boats. Your prize, no money, just knowing you are the best of the best. Fastest time 1st place = 17minutes, 39.57 seconds Slowest time 410th place = 23 minutes, 26.19 seconds 10 boats never started.
