This looked mostly like a Black Rat Snake, but was located in n. Texas, in an intergrade zone between Black (Elaphe o. obsoleta) and Texas (E.o. lindheimerii) subspecies. Elaphe is the generic name used from an earlier taxonomic nomenclature [currently Pantherophis].
