Island marble. Found in Siphnos. It had been stolen and was returned from Italy. At the upper part of the rectangular pillar is the head of Hermes. Hermes was, amoung other properties, the patron of travellers, therefore herms were erected at roads and crossroads. The phallus carved on the fron face of the pillar is both a symbol of pleasure and an apotrapaic element. About 520 B.C.
