Nice gallery, Jack. I watched the sildeshow. Looks like the new lens did a fine job. I have the Tamron 28-300 VC and it is amazingly good optically. The only thing I have against it is the slow focusing in AF, not a wildlife lens for sure. I would think the zoom range of yours would be fine with AF. Does it seem pretty fast focusing?
