I don't think that I can add much too what CJ Morgan said so well, save that the colours in the sky (ranging from the darkness above the roof to the red light of the dawn) are superbly captured. I also like the way that the colours of the artificial lights seem to echo the colours of the dawn sky. I'd love to do more shooting at that time of the morning as well, but as CJ said it's hard to get up. Easier in Autumn (and Winter), though, which thankfully we're starting to move into now. I don't doubt that I'll keep some of these shots in mind when I'm doing my own next early morning shoots.
Good light -- the roof & the sky above, and the
lamps & distance horizon sky -- these all seem
to play well compositionally. And then there's
places in the image where there's light against
dark, and other areas which are dark against
light... and all of it together seems visually
quite appealing. And I just don't imagine it
would quite this good at any other hour of the
day.
So difficult to drag our sorry butts out of
bed pre-dawn to go shooting. But afterwards,
when we're back home and can better appreciate
how useful that early morning well lends itself
to the images we make, then in retrospect,
dragging ourselves out of bed pre-dawn now
shows why it was quite worthwhile.
