This is the main fish market in Bombay. Dhows from around the bay pull in early in the morning and unload their catch as the day breaks. I have never before experienced a smell as pungent at the one that greeted me when I arrived at the docks. It is a lethal combination of rotting sea creatures and the sewage that is exposed by the bay at low tide. The stone pier is packed with a frenzied, pulsating mob of people buying and selling, and one has to be extremely careful not to get shoved over the edge and fall to the muck below. Like many places in India, photography is strictly forbidden for no good reason, and strangely the market dwellers seem to know this and frequently yelled at me.
