The huge pandanus fruit is an interesting food. The inside of the fruit is something like a pomegranate, inasmuch as there are seeds encased in juice-filled pods, except the pandanus juice has the consistency of thick ketchup. Strangely enough, the flavor of the juice, which is extracted by squeezing the seed pods repeatedly, is something like ketchup with chili powder. After an intense negotiation, my guide bought the big fruit from this old man for about a dollar.
