THE GREAT ESCAPE

Red-bellied Woodpecker at the National Audubon Society Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

This was the fifth and last shot I had taken of this particular bird. As you can see,
I got quite lucky in capturing what I did. The event was too far away for me to observe
in real time, and I consider myself lucky on two occasions, as I might not have even seen the
insect in the photograph as I often don't have the time to look at all my shots this closely.

This image has been severely cropped from the original photo, but is four times the
normal file size I use for images typically uploaded to my pbase galleries. A different version
of this photograph can be seen in the Red-bellied Woodpecker gallery. -- Bob Pelkey
