Palm Warbler at Crane Point Museum and Nature Center
Marathon, Florida USA

Story Behind the Shot:
Along a trip through the Florida Keys, I made a stop at the Crane Point Museum and Nature Center at the southern end of the Great Florida Birding Trail. I was told at the museum that an exotic called Shaving Brush Tree (Bombax ellipticum) was spared eradication at the site which otherwise benefits native plants and animals. The mature tree was observed adjacent to the historic Crane house while a Palm Warbler took advantage of a sip of fresh water that otherwise seemed absent surrounded by Florida Bay.
