What is it???

Its actually a homemade miniature hot air balloon. I was at the beach after sunset and saw a man light this latern like thing. After a couple of minutes he carried it to the water's edge and let it go in the air. Then I realized what it was. I just opened the shutter and tracked it upward for about 30 seconds and got this very unusual light trail as it spiraled toward the sky.
