I've been watching and photographing this pair of mallards for about two weeks now. He apparently has a broken wing, but seems to swim and forage just fine. Last week, I watched the female catch a fish and take it over to the male only to have a gull come and swipe it.

She won't leave his side. I've seen them swimming, sleeping, mating and just being ducks.

I think we might be able to learn a thing or two from them.
